3-day Sahara experience Itinerary
Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
We kick off the 3-day Sahara experience for study abroad students with an early departure from Marrakech. We climb the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass before reaching the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou. This ancient fortress is a staple for student tours to Morocco, having served as a backdrop for countless Hollywood blockbusters. After exploring the clay architecture, we continue through Ouarzazate and the Valley of the Roses, ending our day in the Dades Gorges. Tonight, you’ll enjoy a traditional dinner and stay in an accommodation tucked into the red mountainside.
Overnight: Hotel in DadesDades – Todra Gorges – Sahara Activities
Today, we head further east toward the Todra Gorges, a massive 300-meter-high canyon that is a favorite stop on our Morocco student tours. After a short hike through the palms and limestone walls, we make our way toward the gateway of the desert. By late afternoon, the real Sahara experience begins as you kick off the adrenaline with a quad bike session across the rolling sand dunes. After the motorized excitement, you will board your camel for a peaceful trek deeper into the Erg Chebbi dunes. We reach a dedicated desert camp just as the sun sets. The evening is filled with traditional Berber food, drumming around the fire, and incredible stargazing, a true highlight for our 3-day Sahara experience.
Overnight: Saharan Desert CampMerzouga – Ouarzazate – Marrakech Return
Witness a spectacular sunrise over the dunes before getting back on the road again. On the final day of our 3-day Sahara experience, we travel back through the Draa Valley and Ouarzazate. We cross the Atlas once more, arriving back in Marrakech by evening. Whether you are with a group of semester at sea students or on a solo gap year, this 3-day student trip is widely considered the best weekend trip for students because of the sheer variety of landscapes seen in just 72 hours.
