Marrakech to the Dades Valley, via the High Atlas and Aït Ben Haddou

Your 4 days trip from Marrakech to Merzouga desert starts with a scenic climb into the High Atlas, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 metres with sweeping views of traditional Berber villages. Our first stop is the ancient ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and backdrop for films like Kingdom of Heaven.

We continue along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs”, through Skoura and the Valley of the Roses, and arrive in the Dades Valley for an evening surrounded by dramatic canyon walls.

Dades Valley to Merzouga, via the Todra Gorge

After breakfast we head to the Todra Gorge, where 300-metre limestone cliffs tower over a refreshing riverbed. Then we continue towards the Saharan frontier through Erfoud, famous for its prehistoric fossils.

In the late afternoon we reach the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga. You’ll swap the vehicle for camels and trek into the golden sands as the sun sets, arriving at our luxury desert camp for Saharan hospitality, a traditional dinner and music by the campfire.

A full day in Merzouga: nomads, Gnaoua music and Saharan life

Today is the highlight of the trip: a full day in the desert. We start with a visit to a nomadic family in their traditional tent, learning about their daily life over a glass of tea, then head to Khamlia, a village known for its Gnaoua music heritage, for a performance by descendants of enslaved people brought from sub-Saharan Africa.

After exploring the Merzouga palm grove and the seasonal lake, the afternoon is yours: relax at a desert hotel with a pool, try sandboarding, or take an optional quad bike tour before a peaceful final evening in the desert.

Merzouga to Marrakech, via the Draa Valley and Ouarzazate

On the final day of your 4 days trip from Marrakech to Merzouga desert, we start early to catch the desert sunrise, then return by a different route through the Draa Valley, following Morocco’s longest river and its palm groves.

We pass through Agdz and Ouarzazate, often stopping at the Taourirt Kasbah, then cross the High Atlas one last time. We reach Marrakech by early evening, where your driver drops you off at your accommodation.
