ExploreFrequently Asked Questions About Choosing A Destination
Quick answers to what people ask us most before adding a destination to their Morocco trip.
How many of Morocco’s destinations should I try to see in one trip?
It depends on how much driving you’re willing to do. Two or three destinations in a one-week trip is comfortable; trying to fit five or six into the same week usually means more time in the car than anywhere worth stopping.
Can I combine an imperial city with a desert destination in one itinerary?
Yes, and it’s one of the most common combinations we build. Pairing somewhere like Fes or Marrakech with a Sahara gateway such as Merzouga.
What’s the difference between Morocco’s imperial cities and its desert towns?
Imperial cities were built or expanded by specific sultans to function as capitals, so they’re dense with walls, gates and palaces. Desert towns like Merzouga exist mainly because of what’s nearby, the dunes.
Is Chefchaouen considered part of the same trip as the desert destinations?
Not usually in the same tour. Chefchaouen sits in the north near Tangier and Fes, while the desert gateways are south of Marrakech, so combining both typically means a longer, multi-week route.
How do I decide which destination to start with?
Start with what you actually want more of: history and architecture points toward the imperial cities, coastline and wind point toward Essaouira, and open landscape with fewer other travelers points toward the desert gateways or the Atlas Mountains.
