A quick way to narrow it down before you dig into full itineraries.
Flying In From Abroad
Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport handles the most international routes, with Marrakech Menara close behind. Both put you within a day’s drive of almost anywhere else on this page.
Heading Straight For The Sahara
Errachidia sits closest to Erg Chebbi, about two hours by road, while Ouarzazate offers the shortest route to the gorges and kasbahs on the way there.
Starting In The North
Tangier is the natural starting point if you’re arriving by ferry from Spain, or want the Rif Mountains and the north built into your route from day one.
Wanting Beach Time Too
Agadir pairs easily with a desert route while keeping a few days free for the Atlantic coast and the Anti-Atlas on either end of the trip.

Browse DestinationsFrequently Asked Questions About Departure Cities
Questions about where to start your trip, not about any single destination.
Which airport should I fly into for a Morocco desert tour?
Marrakech and Casablanca have the most international routes and put you within a day’s drive of the Sahara. If you specifically want the shortest road to the dunes, flying into Errachidia, when routes are available, cuts that drive to about two hours.
Can a tour start in one city and end in another?
Yes, most of our multi-day itineraries are built this way deliberately, starting in Marrakech and finishing in Fes, for example, rather than looping back to the same airport.
Is it better to start a desert tour from Marrakech or Ouarzazate?
Marrakech offers more flight options and a wider choice of routes; Ouarzazate shaves a day off the drive since it already sits on the southern side of the Atlas Mountains.
Do I need extra travel days to reach Errachidia or Agadir?
Possibly, since both have fewer direct international flights than Casablanca or Marrakech. Many travelers fly into a bigger hub first and connect onward, or simply start their tour from the bigger city instead.
Which departure city is best for a first-time visitor to Morocco?
Marrakech, mainly for the sheer number of route options and flight connections. Tangier or Fes work just as well if your trip leans more toward the north or the Imperial Cities than the desert.
