4 Days Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour Itinerary
Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
Your 4 days Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour begins with a pickup from your hotel in Marrakech. We set out toward the High Atlas Mountains, ascending the winding roads of the Tizi N’Tichka pass. We stop frequently to admire the shifting colors of the landscape and the traditional architecture of the Berber mountain settlements.
By midday, we arrive at the world-famous Ait Ben Haddou, where a walk through the ancient Ksar reveals why this site has been chosen for dozens of Hollywood films. After visiting Ouarzazate, the route continues through the Skoura oasis and the Valley of Roses. We finish the day in the Dades Valley, surrounded by towering red rock formations.
Overnight: Riad/Hotel in Dades ValleyDades Valley – Todgha Gorges – Merzouga Sahara
Today, we head deeper into the valley to see the geological wonders of the Dades Gorges. From there, the journey moves to Tinghir, the gateway to the Todgha Gorges. You will have the opportunity to walk along the riverbed where the canyon walls narrow to just 10 meters apart, rising 300 meters high above you.
In the afternoon, we transition toward the arid plains of the pre-Sahara, passing through Erfoud. Upon reaching Merzouga, you will meet your camel team for a trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. The evening is spent at a private camp, enjoying dinner by the campfire and a night under the expansive desert sky.
Overnight: Luxury Desert Camp in MerzougaMerzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate
Waking up early offers the chance to watch the sun rise over the Algerian border. After breakfast, we depart the dunes and visit Rissani, a historic market town that served as the ancient capital of the Tafilalet region. The journey then crosses the volcanic Jbel Saghro range, leading us toward the lush vegetation of the Draa Valley.
This valley is home to the longest river in Morocco and is lined with millions of palm trees and ancient earth-built Kasbahs. This slower pace allows for a better appreciation of the southern lifestyle. We eventually reach Ouarzazate in the late afternoon, giving you time to relax at your accommodation or explore the local town center.
Overnight: Riad/Hotel in OuarzazateOuarzazate – Telouet – High Atlas – Marrakech
On the final day of your 4 days marrakech to merzouga desert tour, we head back toward Marrakech via a different mountain route. We visit the Kasbah of Telouet, once the palatial residence of the Glaoui family, which offers a hidden look at incredible Moroccan craftsmanship. This mountain road provides a unique perspective of the High Atlas before we rejoin the main pass.
